“I am so much better than I am right now.” -Human’s of New York

Do you guys follow “Human’s of New York”?

It is so great.

I always feel inspired by the pictures in some way.

I totally recommend it.

Last night “Humans of New York” posted this photo:

With the caption: “I am so much better than I am right now.”

Wow.

I look at this man, and I think of the depth of that sentence and I’m completely convicted.

Because I am too.  At least I could be.

I am so much more, capable of so much more, I want to be so much more.

One of the most important things I ever learned from my mother was this very concept.

She didn’t pound this into me with her words, it was simply her life.

She lived this beauty–she knew she was better.

She was constantly working on herself.

Never idle, never satisfied.

She was constantly reading. . .thinking. . . striving for more.

She craved a deeper understanding of this life, of her faith.

She wanted to be a better parent, a better wife, a better woman.

I am so honored to have witnessed her desire to do right by me, and I pray that I too can do right by the people I’ve been in-trusted with.

I am so blessed.  Loving these souls is easy in so many ways.

But I can do better.

I have a beautiful, peaceful life.  It is easy to cherish where I am in this world.

But I can do better.

I am better.

It’s not about hating who I am right now, it’s about not being complacent.

I never want to settle.

I don’t want to get too comfortable with my shortcomings.

I want to keep working.

“I am so much better than I am right now.”

“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:6
