There are people in your life that are just plain kind.
My sister-in-law is one of them.
The first time I met her was at my husband’s (then boyfriend’s) college graduation.
Adam had to get ready for the shindig so he asked me, his super shy girlfriend–who was already convinced that she was going to marry this guy– to pick his family up from the hotel, drive them to the ceremony, and sit with them through the hours long ordeal all alone.
I was terrified.
I confessed my fear to a mutual friend and she, already knowing Adam’s family, told me, “Just sit with Emily, she’s really nice.”
So, I did. And she was.
She is the epitome of sugar and spice.
One of the kindest souls I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet.
But a few years ago she was hurt. Emily showed deep compassion to a person who took advantage of her spirit and she got burned in the worst way.
It was heartbreaking to watch.
Years have gone by, water under the bridge, and this past weekend I had the pleasure of watching this amazing woman marry her perfect match.
The harmony to her melody, her band-mate, a true friend, a good guy.
And we celebrated. Kindness has triumphed, the sweetness remains.
Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces
Little darling, it seems like years since it’s been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
And I say it’s all right
Congratulations you two. No one deserves it more.
